Answers to common questions about Straits & Canton

General

Straits & Canton is a private, member-only media house for Westerners who think for themselves. It brings together independent creators, member-only videos, posts, comments and private discussion inside one shared network.

No. Content is not published for the general public. Members must join and log in to watch videos, read posts, comment and take part in the community.

It is for Westerners who want independent voices, honest discussion and a clearer view of the world away from public-platform pressure, corporate filters and algorithm-driven feeds.

No. Southeast Asia is where the original idea began, but Straits & Canton is being built as a wider private media house with creators covering different countries, cultures, issues and perspectives around the world.

The main content will be member-only videos and posts from approved creators, together with comments and member chat.

Not in the traditional sense. Straits & Canton is a private media platform for independent creators, opinions, experiences, commentary and discussion.

Membership

Membership costs $11 per month.

Your membership includes:

  • access to every approved creator;
  • member-only videos;
  • creator posts and updates;
  • comments on content;
  • member chat;
  • new creators as they are added;
  • the ability to apply to become a creator after three months;

No. There is one membership with full access. There are no separate content tiers or upsells.

Yes. Membership is monthly and can be cancelled at any time.

Your access continues according to the billing period already paid for and then ends when the membership expires.

No. The platform is designed around member-only access. Public pages explain the network, but the media and community are behind the membership login.

The membership model allows the network and its creators to be supported directly by members rather than relying on advertising, public algorithms or corporate media control.

Creators

Every member has a path to become a creator, but creator access is not immediate unless invited. Members must first spend three months inside the network before they can apply to become a creator.

The three-month period helps ensure that future creators understand the platform, its standards and its community before they are allowed to publish and earn.

Straits & Canton is not an open-upload platform. The waiting period helps prevent spam, low-effort uploads and people joining only to promote themselves.

Approved creators can publish member-only videos and posts and interact with members through comments and discussion.

No. The platform is intended to give smaller serious creators a realistic way to build a paid member base. A creator does not need thousands of supporters to take part.

Yes. Existing creators can use Straits & Canton as their private membership base and bring their audience into the wider network.

They receive access to that creator’s content as well as every other approved creator and the wider private community, all through one membership.

Creator Earnings

A creator receives 50% of the membership fee from members who join through that creator’s referral or membership link.

The remaining share supports Straits & Canton, including the platform, hosting, payment systems, development, moderation, administration and growth of the network.

Yes. When someone joins without being referred by a specific creator, 50% of that membership revenue goes into the shared Creator Pool.

The Creator Pool will be distributed between eligible approved creators according to the platform’s creator-payment rules. The full calculation, eligibility requirements and payment schedule will be set out in the Creator Terms before creator payouts begin.

As the platform grows, creators will contribute different amounts of content and member value. The payment system therefore needs to remain fair to active creators while also rewarding the wider network.

The final treatment of payment-processing fees, refunds, taxes and chargebacks will be clearly stated in the Creator Terms before paid creator participation begins.

Content and Community

The platform is intended for independent opinions, commentary, experience, analysis and useful discussion. Content must still comply with the law, the Creator Terms and the Community Rules.

No. Independence does not mean spam, threats, fraud, harassment or illegal content are permitted. The platform can be opinionated without becoming disorderly or unsafe.

Creators are not expected to conform to a corporate political line or public-platform algorithm. However, content remains subject to legal obligations and quality standards.

The platform is not being built around a public engagement algorithm that decides what outsiders see. It is a private member network where members choose the creators and content they follow.

Yes. Comments are part of the member-only experience so members can discuss content directly beneath the videos.

Yes. Members can take part in private chat and discussion inside the network.

No. Ordinary membership does not include immediate creator-upload access. Members must complete the three-month period before applying as a creator.

Spam, repetitive self-promotion, deceptive content and low-value mass uploads will not be allowed. Accounts and creator privileges may be restricted or removed where necessary.

The core model is member-funded rather than advertising-funded.

Privacy and Independence

Yes. The media and community areas are accessible only to members.

Members should treat member-only content and discussions as private. The exact rules on copying, recording or redistributing content will be stated in the Terms of Membership and Community Rules.

The core model is member-funded rather than advertising-funded.

Straits & Canton is an independent private media house. It is not intended to operate as the media arm of a political party, corporation or outside organisation.

It means the platform is built around Western voices, interests and perspectives. Creators may cover any country or subject, but the network is designed for a Western membership and audience.

Trusted partners remain part of the longer-term plan, but they are not the core product at launch. The immediate focus is videos, posts, comments, creators and member chat.
